Teaching the World to Play!
Composer and pianist Robin McLaughlin (b. 1994) has had work performed throughout the United States and Canada, and has been recognized by ASCAP and the American Composers Forum. Drawing musical inspiration from metaphor and the sacred, her music is imaginative and energetic. Robin lives in Greensboro, North Carolina, where she teaches piano and elementary general music, and plays piano with Catchfire Collective, an innovative chamber ensemble.
Hailed as colorful, whimsical, and “sure to delight” by critics, Robin has held residencies at Arts Letters and Numbers and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. Robin has crafted numerous works that intertwine music with light, including Lights will find you for saxophone and lighting design which was commissioned by a consortium of musicians from around the United States and Canada, and In the Beginning, for Krisztina Dér Noble’s flute/light project. Other recent projects include a Shel Silverstein-inspired Falling Up for her ensemble the Catchfire Collective, a Rosie the Riveter-inspired work for the Greensboro-based Women’s Wind Ensemble, and Hot Take for clarinet and actor for clarinetist Kyle Kostenko. Robin also recently released God With Us, an album of sacred music that is streaming everywhere.
Robin received her Masters in Music Composition from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and a dual-Bachelor of Music in Music Composition and Music Education from Houghton College.
