Teaching the World to Play!
Mike Kamuf is an educator, composer, arranger, and freelance trumpeter who holds Bachelor of Music degrees in both jazz performance and music education from the Dana School of Music at Youngstown State University, and a Master of Arts degree in instrumental conducting from George Mason University. Mike served as assistant principal trumpet with the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra under the baton of David Effron, and has performed and toured with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra and Woody Herman Orchestra. He can be heard as a soloist with the Washington, D.C.–based Alan Baylock Jazz Orchestra.
Mike Kamuf's compositions and arrangements have been commissioned and performed by several bands and artists, including the Woody Herman Orchestra, Glenn Miller Orchestra, USAF Airmen of Note, Navy Commodores, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra, COTA Cats, Marvin Stamm, Terrel Stafford, Chris Vadala, Eddie Daniels, Duffy Jackson, Bill Watrous, and Nick Brignola. Currently, Mike serves as director of bands and orchestras, and music department chair at John T. Baker Middle School in Damascus, Maryland. He has directed the Montgomery County Public Schools Senior Honors Jazz Band for six seasons and leads the MCPS Faculty Jazz Band at several annual school functions. Mike has served as a jazz faculty member at both Youngstown State University and Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland.
