Based on a Welsh
folk song, this simple melody is tastefully scored to fit the
familiar style of Holst and Vaughn Williams. After an introduction
that builds on fragmentary melodic elements in 4/4 meter, the main
theme of the variations appears in 3/4. Scored to feature different
instrumental textures throughout, in addition to a full ensemble
treatment. Very appropriate for contest.
