John M. Dilkey
(1944 - 2010)Former director of Bands at Tulane University, John M. Dilkey (1944 - 2010) first moved to New Orleans in 1977. He received his bachelor's degree from Butler University and his master's degree from Ohio State University. While in the Midwest, Mr. Dilkey taught in the Ohio and Indiana public school systems before pursuing a doctorate at Indiana University. After arriving in New Orleans, he become a successful freelance musician, playing trombone, tuba, and piano with a number of professional groups around the city. In addition to performing, he is a composer and arranger specializing in music for large jazz ensemble.
